Name That Tune

Can anyone name the music in this video? First one to properly identify it wins an eMusings "wish".

Is it putting on the Ritz?

I don't know what it is, but it's got a great big-band feel to it (I love big band swing -- I really need to get some more of it on CD).

Hi Mosta! No, it's not Puttin' on the Ritz, although it has a similar jauntiness of rhythm. Puttin' on the Ritz is a fave of mine. 80's rule! :)

Same here, Jake. I'm a big fan of Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Cherry Poppin' Daddies. Do you know the piece Sing, Sing, Sing? One of my faves.

I've played Sing, Sing, Sing in a jazz band I played in YEARS ago. If I still had a drum set, I'd SO be playing in a jazz band, as I LOVED swingin' (in that musical sort of way, not that dirty sort of way).

I've got a couple Daddies CDs, a Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, a Setzer, and a Squirrel Nut Zippers, which is about all the modern swing I have, but I need to find some more as I'm playing the crap out of them :-)

If your tastes are as eclectic as mine, check out Barrage (try the samples) or, better yet, rent the video from Netflix.

Ever been to the drum circle at Drake Park on Wednesday evenings?

<broad generalization that's bound to get my ass kicked>
The drum circles at Drake park are generally full of hippies who generally just play the same basic 4 or 5 rhythms over and over. I'm a percussionist -- I can actually read sheet music ;-). While those are fun to play in now again, only for about 10 minutes. Smaller groups are better, really, especially if they're folks you've played with before.

Keep it real, Jake. I never kick ass when it's honest. :)

I was more interested in the gymnastics than the music. It amazes me that it is possible for a human to do that and live to tell about it. I also wonder what kind of injuries she will suffer from later in life? I'm guessing mostly shoulder and wrist injuries.

I'm not convinced gymnasts are human. :)

So, did I miss it? What's the song??

You tell me! Nobody's figured it out yet, including me. If I get desperate, I may try playing it into one of those phone-response systems that figure out a song by listening to it and telling you what it is. I don't think there's any free ones, though.

Catchy song. but I can't name it. I was actually geeky enough to try and read the bib number of the gymnast and search through the 2005 Visa Championship sites. Once I get over this cold, I'll find non-lame stuff to do.

The gymnast is Jana Bieger, if you're curious. Hasn't helped me find the tune. A few web sites list her floor routine as a mix from the Rocky movies, but she doesn't seem to use that any more.

Hope you feel better soon.

And the answer is...

vague.

According to the gymnastics section of Jana Bieger's website, her floor music is a mix from Rocky movies.

Vince DiCola's two instrumentals from the Rocky IV soundtrack, Training Montage and War, are about as close a guess as I can make.

Yeah, I listened to the sample tracks for a bunch of Rocky movies on Amazon, but none of them were that song. I found an older floor routine of hers, and it was indeed a Rocky mix. But this seems to be a new floor routine, with non-Rocky music. So I'm still stumped. :(
