Ernesto's and South Bend Bistro

South Bend Bistro

Last night we went into Sunriver to try out the South Bend Bistro. (If it's in Sunriver, why's it called the South Bend Bistro? I'm just asking.) The restaurant is small, and we had no reservation (I hate reservations!), but they found a table for us. The decor is clean and elegant, with white linen on the tables, and there's jazz playing softly in the background. The food was great, and included a buttery Yukon potato puree with crispies for garnish. Connie's leftovers came in a cardboard carton (not styrofoam), and they had written on the corner of the box, "salmon 8/31". Nice touch!

Ernesto's

Tonight we tried Ernesto's Italian Restaurant at the north end of Bend. We don't usually eat out two weeknights in a row, but there you go. Somehow, from the outside, I thought the restaurant would be fancier inside, more formal, like dark wood paneling and white linens and low lighting, but it was open and airy and fun. The decor was like a Venetian courtyard, with faux shuttered windows over flowerboxes and awnings over the actual windows, and a pergola with grapevines on it. The service was good, and the food was good, and the leftovers came in cardboard cartons (not styrofoam) with the entree and date written on the box. Nice touch! What are the odds of trying two new restaurants in a row with that same little nicety?

Tomorrow

Tomorrow we're going to a Dutch Oven Convention in La Pine. (Don't ask.)

Besides not melting in the microwave, why is cardboard better than styrofoam?

The microwave thing for sure, but cardboard also doesn't leak, crack or squeak (ugh), you can write on it more easily, and it's better for the environment (a biggie in my book).
